The Aurora Quartet was formed two years ago and is already in regular demand for weddings and corporate functions. Many of the arrangements are our own and this programme brings a snapshot of our very varied repertoire to you – we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy playing it.
Aden Mazur - Violin
An established member of the Aberdeen music scene, Aden is a regular player with many of the local orchestras including the Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra. Aden has been leader for many sell-out performances of shows in the Edinburgh Fringe including Les Miserables, Oliver!, Oh! What A Lovely War, and Sunshine on Leith. Aden holds Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in violin performance with distinction.
Alexandria Grant - Violin
After receiving a Diploma in Violin from ABRSM while still at school, Alexandria has gone on to be leader of many orchestra including the Grampian Youth Orchestra and the Scottish Opera Connect Orchestra where she performed the premier of Anamchara by renowned composer Pippa Murphy.
Laurie Rominger - Viola
Laurie holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in viola performance from Louisiana State University. She has performed around the globe in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo recitals. She is especially passionate about string chamber music, and performs duo and quartet repertoire regularly in both Scotland and North Carolina. Currently, Laurie is based in Aberdeen, where she works as Senior Musician with Big Noise Torry and teaches viola at the University of Aberdeen.
Gareth John - Cello
Gareth regularly appears in recital and as concerto soloist, and has recorded for BBC Radio 3. Having graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Distinction in Performance, Gareth later studied conducting and, among others, has conducted with the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland, the North Wales Youth Orchestra, Aberdeen Sinfonietta and a TV special for S4C with Hayley Westenra. He is conductor of Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra with whom he conducted a memorable Beethoven: Choral Symphony in Aberdeen's Music Hall in 2015.
